The Woolco in the image above is not our Woolco, but it sure looks a lot like it. The image of the vacant building below is where our Woolco once was.
Woolco opened here, on the south-east corner of Central Avenue at Holland-Sylvania Road, when construction of the Toledo West Shopping Center was completed in 1972.
Woolco operated until January of 1983. Hills Department Store moved into the former Woolco later that same year.
Hills closed more than a decade later in 1999 and Ames Department Store moved in.
The Toledo West Shopping Center also included a Jo-Ann Fabrics, Lane Drug Store (later People’s Drug Store), and Kroger (on the far east end).
The shopping center was demolished in August, 2002. A Walmart was built, and remains, on the site.
