The Whitney & Currier Building is the six-story building right of center between the two-story Northern Bank building (center at Madison and Superior) and the four story Doyle & Lewis Building. Note the clock in front of the building. The ten-story Home Bank Building (former site of the Toledo Club building) is on the far right at Madison and Huron. Formerly Shirk Television (1965), House of Tapes (1969) and Elite Travel (c1979-83). Robert Peeler opened Peeler Music in 1984. Peeler Music closed in 2008. More details in Robert Peelers obituary included in the read more portion of this post.

Daves’ Drum Depot

4100 Monroe Street

Daves’ Drum Depot began in 1980 as Rick’s Drum Shop on Sylvania Avenue. In 1991 the business was purchased by two Rick’s employees, Dave Gierke and Dave Fogle. Geirke and Fogle moved the store to 4100 Monroe Street in 1993 and renamed it Daves’ Drum Depot. In 2005 Daves’ Drum Depot was purchased by long time manager Martin Stein and renamed The Drum Depot.

Was located on the east side of Secor Road just north of Central Avenue in the old Haughton School.

Penguin Music, 5459 Monroe St.

Penguin Music Store #3.

“You have never been to a music store if you have not visited Penguin Music Store on Monroe Street.” – Newspaper Ad, November 16, 1986.

Penguin Music was founded by Lawrence A. Oberheu c1953. Monroe store closed February 1, 2000. Demolished between 2000-2005. Additional locations were on Sylvania Avenue and Detroit Avenue.

Crossroads Guitar Shop, 2439 Tremainsville Rd.

Crossroads Guitar Shop opened in 1991 and was dissolved in June 2011. It was owned by Jack A. Little. Along with being a destination place for musicians, it was also a regular stop for those visiting TMIE across the street.
