In 1962 a new road was created to route Central Avenue traffic around the US 23 interchange construction site.

The bridge over US 23 was completed in late 1962 and Central Avenue reopened. Portions of the reroute remained in place on the west and east side of US 23.

The reroute portion on the east side was officially named Mortemore Drive in 1977, named after Andrew Mortemore. The portion on the west side became part a driveway for 6350 W. Central.
